Abstract
1347450 Roll stabilization of marine vessels SPERRY RAND CORP 11 Oct 1972 [22 Oct 1971] 46852/72 Heading B7M In a marine vessel roll stabilization system, signals from sensors such as rate gyros detecting the roll angle, roll rate, and speed of the vessel are applied to a lift order computer which processes the signals to provide a lift order signal and a signal representing the square of the speed of the vessel which are then applied to a stroke order computer and then to fin actuating mechanisms 11, 13. Feed-back signals representing the fin angles as well as the vertical forces on the fins are derived from transducers and applied to the stroke order computer. The stroke order signal may be used to operate a servo which controls the flow rate of an hydraulic pump by positioning a stroke shaft. The output of the pump then controls the speed and position of the fins used to stabilize the vessel.
