Abstract

1347249 Gas burner with igniter PARKINSON COWAN APPLIANCES Ltd 16 July 1971 [31 July 1970] 37092/70 Headings F4F and F4T A gas burner suitable as a top burner of a cooking range comprises an outer casing 10 having a circular aperture 14 in its bottom and formed integrally with a gas supply passage 12, a cylindrical inner sleeve 11 mounted coaxially within the casing and projecting above the upper end thereof to define an annular gas outlet 18, a radially extending deflector ring 19 provided on the sleeve and spaced above the outlet 18, a slot 27 formed in the wall of the sleeve, an aperture 28 in the sleeve wall directly beneath the slot for diverting a small volume of gas into a passage 29 formed between the inner wall of the sleeve and a deflecting plate 30 mounted thereon, and an electric igniter 24 mounted inside the sleeve and having a high tension electrode 26 which forms a spark gap with the sleeve wall to ignite gas from passage 29 whereupon the resulting flame ignites the main gas flow at outlet 18 by way of the slot 27. Circumferentially spaced and extending apertures 21 in the sleeve wall above the ring 19 provide for exit of air flowing up through the sleeve. A cap is provided for the sleeve comprising a pan-engaging thermostatic device 22 and a radiation shield 23 while a heat shield 31 is provided within the sleeve to shield the thermostatic device from the flame on passage 29. Instead of a spark igniter, a glow coil igniter or a pilot burner whose flame may burn on coils of stainless steel wire may be fitted.
