Abstract

1347233 Anti-theft devices G J WALKER 19 April 1971 [29 Oct 1969] 52881/69 Heading B7J [Also in Division E2] An anti-theft locking device for a trailer vehicle coupling of the kind which has a ballsocket head 2 which fits on to a ball-headed projection which is attached to a towing vehicle, the ball-socket head being secured in position by a spring-loaded plunger 3 which is retracted by a handle 5 during hitching or unhitching, the coupling having a thumb-operated safety-catch 10 which prevents the plunger 3 from being accidentally or otherwise retracted, comprises a locating member 20 and a cover 21 extending from the locating member, the locating member 20 being passed through the handle 5 with the cover 21 on one side of the handle 5 extending over the safety catch 10 to prevent its operation. The locating member 20 is retained in position by a slidable bolt 23, which, in bolting position, protrudes from the locating member 20 to engage the opposite side of the handle to that engaged by the cover, the bolt 23 yielding against a spring when a cylinder lock mechanism 25 is key released and the locating member 20 is pulled out of engagement with the handle 5. The spring-loading of bolt 23 maybe dispensed with.
