Abstract

1347004 Press-curing laminated belting DUNLOP HOLDINGS Ltd 29 April 1971 [7 May 1970] 22199/70 Headings B5A B5F and B5N In the method of curing belting by compressing a length between heated press platens, then moving it along and compressing and curing the next adjacent length, one portion of the platens is heated to the curing temperature whilst an adjacent portion is maintained at a lower temperature, to partially cure the next length of belt adjacent to that being cured. The belt may be pre-heated prior to entering the press, e.g. by microwave or dielectric heating. A belt of layers of incured rubber laid up with reinforcement layers is pre-heated and then compressed and cured between a pair of platens, each of which is provided with 2 sets of passages 12 and 10 for circulating fluid, those in one portion 13 of the platen being supplied with steam for curing at 150‹ C. whilst those in the adjacent portion 11 are supplied with cooling water at 30‹ C. to maintain this portion at 72‹ C. to effect partial curing. To maintain the cooling water at the desired temperature a temperature sensing device is provided which effects operation of a control valve to either pass the cooling fluid through a cooling device, or by-pass the cooler as required, a suitable circuit with valves and pumps being described (Fig. 3, not shown).
