Abstract

1346637 Universal joints FERROPLAST THEO BURDELSKI & CO 9 Feb 1971 21330/71 Heading F2U A universal joint comprises an outer sleeve 1 with in its inner surface, axial grooves 1a each paired with a facing axial groove 2a in the outer (e.g. part spherical) surface of an inner sleeve 2, and in each pair of grooves 1a, 2a a tooth 3 (e.g. of square cross-section with a diagonal extending radially of the sleeves) releasably retained, (e.g. by rings 2b, 4 with flanged 2e, 4a or conical faces engaging corresponding parts 3b of the teeth 3). The number of teeth may be a multiple of four, the radially outer surfaces 3a of the or each four teeth being defined by two mutually perpendicular cylinders of diameter D and extending radially of the sleeves. The teeth 3 may be of synthetic material impregnated with a MoS 2 compound, or be of bronze. Axial end load may be taken by a cap 13a bearing on a pad 7a.
