Abstract
1417107 Shaft coupling WELLMAN BIBBY CO Ltd 8 Dec 1972 [9 Sept 1971] 42055/71 Heading F2U For transmitting rotation between two members (e.g. a flywheel 91 and a flexible coupling 90) a coupling comprises inner and outer flexible rings with a mating tapered face, so that expansion of the outer ring and contraction of the inner ring to effect coupling as a result of relative axial movement of the rings is effected by rotating screws 27, 35, 69 accommodated in at least one radially thickened part of one of the rings (e.g. extending radially outwardly of both the surfaces coupled by the rings). The screws may engage notches 25, plain holes, a radial surface, or a groove in the other ring or a flange thereon. Release of the coupling may be effected either by reversing the rotation of the screws 27, 35 (e.g. due to circlips 34 thereon) or by removing the screws 69, 35 (without a circlip 34) and inserting them in further holes to engage threads in the ring other to the one having threads for tightening the coupling. Each ring may be rendered resilient either by a split, or by slits either from one end, or alternately from the ends. When all the slits are from the same end, the ring may have circumferential grooves in its inner and outer surfaces at the closed end of the slits.
