Abstract

1346023 Axial flow compressors SOC NATIONALE D'ETUDE ET DE CONSTRUCTIONS DE MOTEURS D'AVIATION 24 Feb 1972 [25 Feb 1971] 8589/72 Headings F1C and FIT In a turbine engine or axial-flow compressor each blade of a set forming a stage is oscillationed about a radial axis to increase the performance of the stage by the Katzmayr effect. The frequency and/or amplitude of the oscillations are controlled in accordance with the reduced rotation speed N/#T and/or the ratio of downstream to upstream pressures P 2 /P 1 of the stage. The stator and/or rotor blades of one or more stages may be oscillated. As shown in Fig. 1 controller 9 for electric motor 8 receives signals 10, 11 according to P 2 /P 1 and N/#T values and causes motor 8 to provide an oscillatory rotary motion of corresponding amplitude and frequency which is transmitted to the blade 2 via shafts, pinions and crown wheel 6. In Fig. 2 the blade is oscillated through a rack 20a and pinion 19. The rod 20 is reciprocated by co-operating cam surfaces 22, 22a provided on plates 23, 23a which are rotated by motor 25. In Fig.4 rod 29 and blade root 27 are provided with corresponding large pitch threads so that when the rod reciprocates radially due to its inner end 29b engaging a rotating eccentrically arranged annular groove 31, the blade 2 oscillates pivotally.
