1345334 Copy-milling, beds and frames PRECISION GRINDING Ltd 6 July 1971 [7 July 1970] 32862/70 Headings B3K and B3B A workpiece milling attachment comprises a stylus 14 and a pattern support 12, a pair of workpiece supports 13, 20, associated with a pair of milling cutters 15, 29, supports 13, 12, being mounted on a table 10 which is movable along two mutually perpendicular axes, and work support 20 being movable by fluid pressure means along axis A Fig. 1 in a direction opposite to that of table 10. Table 10 is adapted to slide in either direction of arrow A along a slide 11, which is adapted to slide in a direction normal to direction A. Supports 12 and 13 are secured to the table. Slide 11 has a bracket 16 fixed thereto and a gear 17 mounted on the bracket which meshes with a rack 18 fixed to table 10, and also with a rack 19 slidably mounted on support 20 by rollers 21, Fig. 2. One end of rack 19 engages a pivotable arm 22 which co-operates with a spool valve 23 Fig. 3 adapted to supply fluid pressure to the required end of a ram 26, the piston-rod 27 of which is fixed at each end to table 10, and the cylinder 28 of which is fixed to support 20. In operation, with table 10 moving in direction A, Fig. 1, and slide 11 stationary, gear 17 rotates and moves rack 19 in the opposite direction to that of table 10. The rack moves away from arm 22, Fig. 3, but the spring in valve 23 urges the spool so that arm 22 remains in engagement with rack 19. Fluid pressure is admitted from valve 23 into the right hand end of cylinder 28, Fig. 3, thus urging the latter in a direction opposite to table 10. After each cut, slide 11 is moved along its axis perpendicular to direction A so that a pair of mirror image workpieces 30, 31, can be produced simultaneously.
