Abstract

1345314 Wire terminals FUTTERS (LONDON) Ltd 7 June 1972 26524/72 Heading H2E A crocodile clip is formed of two parts 1, 2 pivotally connected together by engagement of journal portions 4 integral with one of the parts in apertures 3 formed in the other of said parts, and a spring 5 located between the parts by at least one indentation in one of the parts to bias jaw portions of the parts towards each other. Each part 1, 2 has a respective toothed jaw portion 1a, 2a, a finger-engaging portion 1b, 2b and side flanges 1c, 2c between the portions 1a, 1b and 2a, 2b. The apertures 3 are formed in the flanges 2c and the journal portions 4 in the flanges 1c, and indentations 6 in the margins of the flanges 2c locate the spring 5. The jaw portions 1a, 2a are each of channel form with side flanges 9, 10 respectively, having teeth 13, and with a respective end flange 11, 12, having straight toothless margins. The end flanges 11, 12 are relatively positioned and/or shaped so that they are in contact with each other when the jaws are closed, the flange 12 co-operating with the planar bottom wall 14 of the jaw portion 1a. Other embodiments show a groove (16), a rib (17) or serrations (19) in the wall 14 for co-operating with the flange 12, and the flanges 12, 13 having various relative curves and/or inclinations to enhance their contact with each other. A wire be secured by a screw 7 or a plug pin on the end of a wire may be held in a cylindrical portion 8.
