Abstract
1345246 Roasting iron sulphide BOLIDEN AB 20 April 1971 [20 April 1970] 10201/71 Heading C1A Iron sulphide is roasted in a fluidized bed furnace, the main part of the roasted material being entrained in the gases, the roasted material is separated from the gases and agglomerated, and the agglomerated material is returned to the bed for hardening. The sulphide may be pyrites or pyrrhotite flotation concentrates, and the roasting may yield magnetite or haemotite. The material may be separated from the gases before or after cooling, and may be magnetically enriched before agglomerating. It may be mixed with bentonite, lime, sulphite waste liquor or fine sponge iron, and agglomerated by rolling between smooth or ridged rollers or by pelletizing, to a maximum particle size of 10 mm. Other fine iron oxide material may be fed to the furnace and/or agglomerated with the separated material. The fluidizing air may be preheated by heat exchange with the roaster gases. The product may be treated at 600-800‹ C. with Cl 2 or HCl to remove other elements from the iron oxide.
