Abstract
A method of treating finely divided metal oxide carrier materials, preferably iron oxide carrier materials, to convert the material to a coarse powder form suitable for subsequent metallurgical treatment, characterized in that the material is agglomerated, preferably by rolling between smooth rollers or with a knurled surface or it is micronodulized to an appropriate particle size distribution for fluidization purposes and then it is passed to a fluidized bed furnace, in which it is toasted together with sulfide material at a temperature between 600 and 1100ºC, being generated the heat required by combustion of the incoming sulphides, after which the hardened and increased grain size product obtained is removed in the hot state from the bed.
