Abstract

134,452. Long, J. Feb. 8, 1919. Milling-cutters; reamers. -The blades of adjustable milling-cutters, reamers, &c. are wedged into dovetailed grooves in the body and locked bv a nut screwed on to a reduced part of the body. The grooves are tapered in depth longitudinally, and one side A<2> is parallel to a radius while the other is inclined, and each side is preferably at right-angles to the adjacent part of the bottom. As shown in Fig. 3, the blades B are secured by wedges C, and both are moved for adjustment by a nut D, Figs. 1 and 6, screwed on a threaded part A<3> of the body, a washer E being interposed between the nut and the ends of the blades and wedges. The washer E may be prevented from rotating by projections G<2>, Fig. 6, fitting the grooves, and may have an axial projection G<3> to bear on each blade and wedge. Screws F or other means prevent the wedges moving when the cutter or reamer is withdrawn forcibly to free it. The grooves being shallow, the body may be formed hollow to serve as a shell reamer.
