Abstract

1344517 Magnetic couplings F R SHERIDAN 29 April 1971 12128/71 Heading H2A [Also in Divisions H1 and F2] A magnetic actuator, e.g. for a pump, needle valve or electric switch comprises a permanent magnet 32 coupled as shown to a needle valve member 14 and housed in a non- magnetic casing 16 between a pair of fixed permanent magnets 28, 30, a further pair of permanent magnets 36, 38 being reciprocatable alternately into and out of chambers 24, 26 between the ends of magnet 32 and magnets 28, 30. Magnets 36, 38 are pivoted to a rocker arm 40 which is actuated either intermittently by hand or continuously by a motor. With the poles of the several magnets arranged as shown, such actuation produces axial movement or continuous reciprocation of magnet 32.
