Abstract
1343489 Track brakes; brake shoes MASCHINENFABRIK SCHARF GmbH 19 April 1971 [14 March 1970] 22463/71 Heading F2E An emergency brake for an overhead railway comprises at least one steel brake shoe 1 which is pressed against a rail to effect braking, the braking surface of the shoe being coated with a friction-increasing material comprising hardmetal grains 5 spacedly embedded in a solder 'layer 6 molten on to the inner surface 2 of the shoe 1 said grains having a greatest dimension of substantially 1À5 to 3 mm. and preferably of substantially 2 to 2À5 mm. The grains 5, which are made of a known sinter material, are directly supported on the inner surface 2 of the brake shoe 1 and have a sharp edged shape. The solder layer 6 has a composition of substantially 42 to 54% copper and 58 to 46% zinc and the brake shoe 1 is of steel having the maximum contents of substantially 0À20% carbon, 0À55% silicon, 1À5% manganese, 0À05% phosphorus and 0À05% sulphur.
