1343280 Culinary cutters and shredders TOWER HOUSEWARES Ltd 3 Dec 1971 [3 Dec 1970] 57568/70 Heading A4C [Also in Divisions B1, F2 and H1] An electrical appliance for domestic shredding or chopping comprises a motor 35, and a rechargeable battery B, and is arranged so that one or more tools T may be attached to be driven by the motor 35. The motor is capable of rotating as a whole in its housing, when subjected to overload to cause a bi-stable "on-off" switch to be monostable in the 'off' position until the overload is removed. The battery unit B is detachably connected to the motor housing, the latter including a gripping handle 10 and the on/ off switch, a drive output spigot 25 being engageable with serrated coller 25', Fig.3b, of a wheel 29. A second wheel 28 is formed with a worm co-operating with a worm wheel 27 for driving the tool T, and rotation is transmitted from the wheel 29 to the wheel 28 by a frictionally engaging wheel 30 freely rotatable on a stub shaft 32, means 33 being provided for moving the shaft 32 perpendicular to its axis to alter the transmission ratio. The switch 12 includes an arm 38 having a ridge 42 co-operable with a nose portion 41 of a rocker 13 to define stable on and off positions. Pivotal movement of the motor 35 in sleeves 37 caused by overloading causes a stud 43 to deflect the arm 38 so that the ridge is rendered inoperative, the switch under these conditions remaining in the off position unless the rocker 13 is positively held in the on position.
