Abstract

1,221,130. Hedge cutters. METABOWERKE K.G. CLOSS, RAUCH & SCHNIZLER. 8 Oct., 1969 [2 Nov., 1968], No. 49453/69. Heading A1E. A hedge cutter comprises two handles, one handle 4 having a spring-loaded on-off switch 28 which is manually held in the "on" position and an electric motor 3 drive the cutter through gearing in which is incorporated a spring-loaded clutch which is automatically disengaged and is engageable by the hand grasping the second handle 7. The motor 3 drives a pinion shaft 11 which engages a drive gear 10 on the bottom of which are dog clutches 15 and around which is an annular groove 19 into which there engages a sheet metal shift fork 17 which is mounted on a spindle 18, Fig. 3. The or each cutter blade is reciprocated by an eccentric 6 into which are mounted clutch dog bolts 16 to complement the clutch dogs 15. A spring 25 urges the shift fork 17 inwardly to disengage the clutch and engagement is effected by means of the lever 23 which is pivoted by rotation of the handle 7 in direction 30 as shown or, as in a second embodiment, by rotation of a shift handle until it abuts the handle 7.
