Abstract

1343206 Percussive tools ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 19 April 1971 [12 March 1970] 23689/71 Heading B4C A percussive hand tool comprises a reciprocable striker 13 driven by means of an electric motor driven crank 20 and a driving piston 16 connected to the crank. Under normal operation, with the tool pressed against a work surface, the cylindrical forward end 30 of the striker enters reduced diameter portion 26 and compresses air in the volume 25. The compression of air in the volume assists in the return motion of the striker. When the tool is withdrawn from a work surface, the cylindrical forward end 30 of the striker enters the volume 25 and the air compressed therein escapes between the portion 26 and the reduced peripheral section of the striker rearwardly of the forward end 30. The escape of air reduces the forces acting on the striker in the return direction at the end of an impact stroke, and should the striker rebound so that its forward end 30 re-enters the portion 26 a partial vacuum will now be created in the volume 25. Thus termination of the reciprocation of the striker will rapidly occur upon the tool being withdrawn from the work surface. As illustrated, the striker rearwardly of the end 30 has four flats 28, and eight arcuate guiding surfaces 29 which slidingly engage the bore 12.
