Abstract

1343091 Restoring to form BRAMMALL Inc 10 Nov 1971 52255/71 Headings B3Q and B3J [Also in Divisions B4 and B8] Force exerting plates 54, 56, Fig. 1, are reciprocated towards and away from each other by means of a toggle linkage 58, 60, 80, 82 mounted between frame members 36, 38, Fig. 3, and actuated by a piston-rod 26 of a cylinder 22 attached to the frame members. The plates 54, 56 can be used to restore a deformed roll of sheet material to its original cylindrical form. Strain on the pivot points of the toggle linkage is reduced by allowing the arcuately curved ends of the arms 58, 60 to bear against pivot block 48 and plates 54, 56 and the arcuately curved ends of arms 80, 82 to bear against a restraining member 100. In the embodiment shown in Figs. 1 and 3, the arm 60 comprises two arms 60a, 60b pivotally mounted on each side of the arm 58, and the arm 80 comprises two arms 80a, 80b pivotally mounted on each side of arms 58 and 82. Also the spread of the plates 54, 56 can be increased by reversing the arms 58, and 60a, 60b. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 7, shoes, e.g. 118, are removable retained on plates 54, 56 by flanges 122 and 126. The above apparatus can be used in pairs separated either by an adjustable spacing device or by members 122 and 124, Fig. 11. The later embodiment has shoes 126, 128 which are placed over the plates 54, 56 and members 122, 124 and which are separated within a deformed core whereupon holding members 132, 134 are inserted to abut flanges 130 of shoes 126, 128. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 12, an additional toggle linkage and pair of plates 54<SP>1</SP>, 56<SP>1</SP> are added between extensions 361, 38<SP>1</SP> of frame members 36, 38 and are actuated by connecting pivot pin extension 164 of the pivot block 48 to pivot pin extension 164<SP>1</SP> of the second toggle linkage by members 142, 144. In another embodiment (Fig. 13, not shown) the pivot block 48 can be connected to a pivot block of the second toggle linkage by means of members having flanges which extend over the frame members 36, 38. The second pair of plates (54<SP>11</SP> and 56<SP>11</SP>, Fig. 14, not shown) can be mounted at right angles to the plates 54, 56. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 16, the plates 54, 56 are in the form of shoes 228, 230 so that when the toggle linkage is collapsed, the ends 232 of the shoes are in engagement and can be driven into a collapsed roll by hammering a projection 238 on the cylinder 22. In a similar embodiment the ends of the shoes opposite the roll engaging ends are pivotally mounted to the cylinder 22.
