Abstract

1342667 Vehicle crash bags ICHIKAWA KEORI CO Ltd 10 Aug 1971 37580/71 Heading B7B An inflatable crash bag made of knitted yarns has the meshes of the knitted yarns covered by a film of synthetic resin so that the bag has an air permeability of from 2 to 50 cc./cm.<SP>2</SP>/sec. under a pressure of from 0À3 to 2À0 atmospheres to prevent "rebound", and a powder of a non- hygroscopic slippery material is applied to the resin-film to prevent sticking of the surface of the folded bag. The yarns may be formed from polyamide, polyester and/or polyurethane filaments, and the resin film may be of polyethylene, vinyl chloride, synthetic rubber or polyurethane resin. The powder applied to the resin film may be talc or kaolin. As shown, a rectangular bag 1 has strings 6 extending between four corners and a gas inlet 4 to reinforce the bag and prevent breakage under rapid expansion. The bag may alternatively be spherical, or pillow-shaped with two gas inlets, or may have a circular section and be formed into a horseshoe or helical shape. Two horseshoe-shaped bags may be combined one at right angles to the other, or a number of horseshoeshaped bags may be piled one upon another.
