Abstract
1342393 Tunnel kilns A LEITNER 9 March 1971 6363/71 Heading F4B In the heating and/or cooling zones of a tunnel kiln 1, fans 9 draw off the kiln gases flowing in countercurrent to the kiln cars 2, through lower outlets 10; and reintroduce them through banks of swirl producing roof nozzles 13 to form gaseous curtains in the channels 4 between the intermittently advanced ware settings 3 and force the counterflowing kiln gases through the interstices of the ware settings. The gases pass to the nozzles 13 via metal or ceramic wall and roof passages 11, 12, 12<SP>1</SP> so arranged that each fan serves more than one bank of nozzles 13, and each bank of nozzles 13 is served by more than one fan. In this way by appropriate preselection of the various passage cross-sections, or by the use of flow throttling elements therein, a desired gas flow distribution and so a desired temperature distribution may be obtained in the kiln. The nozzles, Fig. 3, consist of a pair of passages 12<SP>1</SP> connected to a single input clannel 12. The nozzles 13 are arranged to co-operate in pairs, one from each passage 12<SP>1</SP>, to produce swirling gas flows 14. (For Figures see next page.)
