Abstract

1342019 Treating textiles SAMUEL PEGG & SON Ltd 9 May 1972 [13 May 1971] 14864/71 Heading D1L Apparatus for performing a method in which textile materials are placed in a first chamber for impregnation with a treatment liquid in a low liquor-ratio process whilst being mechanically worked and are then transferred to a second chamber in which the materials are tumbled whilst being heated to a temperature at which the treatment liquor is fully active comprises a first treatment chamber 1 comprising a drum 2 rotatable about its horizontal axis and having a hatch 6 through which the materials to be treated and the impregnation liquor are added and a removable end door 5 through which the treated materials are discharged, a jack 9 extending between carriage 8 and base frame 7 for the drum to tip the drum to discharge the impregnated materials, a discharge chute 16 pivotally connected to base frame 7 and a second treatment chamber 100 comprising a rotatable drum for receiving the discharged impregnated material and heating it to the required temperature. The second chamber 100 (Figs. 4 and 5, not shown) is preferably substantially identical to that illustrated in Fig. 1 of Specification 1332727. As illustrated the drum 2 may include perforated partitions 2a forming a plurality of individual compartments therein, liquor outlet 2b and drive means comprising belt 4b, gear 4a and motor 4 for rotating the drum on rollers 3 journalled into base frame 7. Carriage 8 may, be mounted on rails 11 to be movable adjacent or away from second chamber 100. Reservoir 13 having telescopic pipe 13a is provided at the top of inspection tower 12 for adding the liquid impregnation agent. Three or more first chambers 1 may be positioned along rails 11 to discharge materials into a single second chamber 100 as desired. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 2) the first chamber 1 is formed by a pressure vessel 201 with removable lid 203 and pivotable about spigots 209. The inside of vessel 201 is lined by air-impermeable bag 202 for containing the textile material and treatment liquid. Air under pressure is intermittently admitted into the space between the interior of vessel 201 and the bag 202 via conduit 205 and causes the bag to contract and expand alternately and thus work the impregnation liquid into the textile material. In a further modification (Fig. 3, not shown) a piston arrangement replaces the airimpermeable bag 202.
