Abstract

1341894 Cooling dynamo-electric machine cores SOC GENERALE DE CONSTRUCTIONS ELECTRIQUES ET MECANIQUES (ALSTHOM) 19 April 1971 [7 April 1970 7 Sept 1970] 26393/71 Heading H2A A solid rotor polepiece, e.g. in a pump motor, contains a closed circuit 9-11, 14-16 for the flow of a cooling fluid, arranged so that natural circulation of the fluid occurs during starting of the motor. The closed circuit may be formed entirely by bores in the polepiece (Fig. 1, not shown), or partly by bore 14-16 and partly by grooves 9-11 in the surface of the polepiece covered by a sheet member 12 welded or soldered (13) in place. The circulation of the cooling fluid transfers heat generated near the pole face to the root of the polepiece, and may be induced by inertia effects during acceleration of the motor, aided by the difference in the densities of hot and cold portions of the fluid, and/or by the effects of vaporization of the cooling liquid in the hotter regions of the polepiece.
