Abstract

1341396 Aerials; radio signalling STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd 8 Sept 1971 [17 Sept 1970] 44421/70 Headings H4A and H4L In a railway radio communication system fixed stations are provided with aerials extending along the track which are constituted by lengths of radiating cable, and which may be of slotted coaxial type or of twin-wire type. Moving vehicles are each provided with a length of said radiating cable, so mounted as to be parallel to, and aligned with a track-side aerial when passing thereby. An underground vehicle aerial may be mounted at the top of a railway coach, and the aerials of adjacent coaches may be coupled by means of flexible cables fitted with connectors. Lengths of cable may be provided on each side of the coaches, and be connected in parallel. A matching load may be provided at the far end of the aerial. For above-ground use the vehicle aerial may be mounted at or near floor level, and co-operate with fixed station aerials mounted near the level of the track.
