Abstract

1,091,437. Inductive signalling. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. July 29, 1965 [July 29, 1964], No. 32519/65. Heading H4U. [Also in Division B7] In an aerial system for inductive signalling a transmitting loop aerial 14 is located symmetrically and in close proximity with a receiving loop aerial comprising two equal half loops 11, 12 which are wound in opposite directions, such that no signal is transferred from the transmitting aerial to the receiving aerial until a signal repeating aerial loop 18 is introduced near one only of the half loops 11 or 12. The housing of aerial 18 has a crosspiece 18a containing an identification circuit which is in series with the loop and which is operative at a particular pre-selected frequency. In an application to railway car identification, the transmitting and receiving aerials are buried between the rails of a track (17), Fig. 3 (not shown), and a signal repeating aerial (18) is fitted under the floor of each car so that it will pass a few inches over one only of the half loops of the receiving aerial. The flux in the half loop which is passed over is modulated according to the frequency of the circuit of the particular aerial (18) and a signal is accordingly produced in the receiving aerial which is characteristic of the identity of the car carrying the aerial (18).
