Abstract

1,107,028. Track apparatus. BRITISH RAILWAYS BOARD. 17 Nov., 1966 [17 Nov., 1965], No. 48840/65. Heading B7N. Information in binary form is transmitted to a train by means of conductor loops 14-17 connected in series with a pair of continuous conductors 10, 11 carrying A.C. current and positioned between the rails 12, 13. A pair of pick-up coils are provided on the train, one cooperating with the continuous, conductors and the other with the conductor loops. The loops are connected by closely adjacent conductors 18, 19 which thus produce negligible field and transmit binary " 1 " or " 0 " in dependance on the direction of current flow in the loop, e.g. the flow in loop 15 is opposite to that in the other loops. The direction of current flow is detected on the train by phase comparison of the voltage picked up from the loops with that picked up from the continuous conductor. One of the continuous conductors may be of wave form as shown, whereby the voltage in the associated pick-up coil is modulated at a frequency which is a function of train speed.
