Abstract
1341363 Screw jacks METALLIFACTURE Ltd 5 Oct 1972 [18 Feb 1972] 7523/72 Heading B8J A jack comprises a casing including a tube 11 of constant cross-section mounted on a base 12. A nut 16 is mounted on a bearing 17 carried by plate-section 13 of a housing element 8. An outer tube 35 is threaded through the nut 16 and an inner tube 38 carrying a load-engaging member 36 is threaded in the outer tube 35. A crown gear 18 is attached to the nut 16 and its teeth 21 on peripheral flange 20 are engaged by a pinion 26 carried in housing part 14 of the housing element 8 on a shaft 25 in bearings 43, 44 respectively formed by apertures in end wall 42 of the housing part 14 and in the side of the tube 11. The shaft 25 may be rotated by a bar (not shown) received in a bore 54 in a shaft 53 rotatably housed in arms 51, 52 of a bifurcated member attached to the shaft 25. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), a further extension member is provided and the housing element 8 mounts the shaft 25 at an angle to the horizontal in bearings independent of the tube 11.
