Abstract
1340718 Fluid heaters; liquid heaters MESSER GRIESHEIM GmbH 28 July 1971 [7 Aug 1970] 35444/71 Headings F4S and F4A In a fluid heater for heating gases or liquids and having a combustion chamber comprising a main part 2 bounded by end walls 5 and 6 and fired by a burner 6a operating at above atmospheric pressure and an extension 3 in the form of an annular duct 7, medium to be heated, entering under pressure through inlet 14, flows first through an annular passage 9 and then through a return annular passage 10 surrounding the combustion chamber before finally leaving via a collector ring 15 in the direction of arrow C. Combustion gases from the burner, on leaving the main part 2, flow through the duct 7 at the velocity of sound into a collector ring 8a from whence they are discharged in the direction of arrow A. Burner operation may be monitored by a pressure sensor disposed in the combustion chamber. Cross-sectional constrictions, e.g. webs inclined at an oblique angle to the direction of flow, may be provided in the combustion gas duct 7, and a helical web may be disposed in the inner annular passage 10.
