Abstract

1340497 Photo-metric analysis MSE HOLDINGS Ltd 19 April 1971 [25 March 1970] 14607/70 Heading G1A [Also in Division B1-2 and B8] A rotor for an analytical centrifuge comprises a central rotor feed region for feeding liquids to different axial levels of the rotor by means 25, 15 and a plurality of cuvettes 10 disposed in respective segmental regions of the rotor and having inlet openings into the central feed region which are at different axial levels. The rotor may comprise a stack of discs (31 to 33) in Fig. 2, (not shown) mounted in a temperature controlled housing 2 for rotation by motor 3, each disc including for photo-metric analysis one or more cuvettes 10 having transparent axial end walls and apertures 6 aligned with cuvettes in other discs in the stack, to enable transmission of light from source 7 through the cuvettes to photo-multiplier 8. The cuvettes are individually identified by computer 9 which receives pulses from detector 12 responsive to circular series of magnets 11 and from detector 14 responsive to a pulse from single magnet 14. Each disc may include cuvettes with inlet openings at more than one level Fig. 5, 6, 9 (not shown) and a disc may comprise separate inner and outer parts 52, 53 in Fig. 9. (not shown). In operation, liquid from metering passages 26 in rotary valve 22 is in one position of the valve forced by compressed air into feed tubes 15 and passes into the cuvettes. Reagent may be added in the same way. Liquid discharged from the cuvettes by applying pressure in the rotor central region or suction at the rotor periphery passes through annular channels 19 into collecting channel 21.
