Abstract

1339904 Electrographic cleaning process XEROX CORP 10 Dec 1970 [19 Dec 1969] 58706/70 Heading G2H Excess aqueous liquid developer remaining after image transfer is removed by applying a liquid cleaner miscible with the developer and the removing the cleaner and developer by means of a dry, absorbent, fibrous material. As shown, cleaner is applied to and removed from a drum 10 by means of an absorbent web 17 supplied with cleaner by a roller 24. Suitable materials for web 17 and roller 24 are listed. A heater 26 dries the drum. In Fig.2 (not shown) a different arrangement of roller and web is shown. In Fig.3 (not shown) a cleaner is applied by a first web (44) and removed by a second (49). Cleaners (e.g. water, methanol) are listed. Developers. Liquid carriers listed include mono- and polyhydric alcohols, ethers, acids, acid anhydrides, amines, esters and ketones. Specific developers named are: (1) glycerol, sorbitol, Santicizer (RTM), a butyl benxyl pthalate plasticizer) and a dye (2) hexanediol, Butvar (RTM), polyvinyl butyral) and a dye. (3) polypropylene glycol, staybelite Ester (RTM, an esterified wood rosin), Ganex (an alkylated polyvinyl pyrrol idone) and a dye. (4) diethylene glycol monoethyl ether and a dye. (5) glycerol, sorbitol, triethanolamine and dyes.
