Abstract

A plaster of Paris bandage comprises a woven fabric of which intersecting threads adjacent at least the edges are bonded together by spaced areas of adhesive and which is coated with a plaster of Paris mixture containing the same or another adhesive, the adhesives being compatible with one another. Wet or dry woven gauze is printed with an adhesive emulsion in a pattern of segmented diagonal lines which may form spaced crosses. A mixture comprising plaster of Paris, an adhesive and a wetting agent is applied to the fabric as an aqueous slurry and dried. The adhesives used are insoluble in water and selected from polymers and copolymers of vinyl acetate, e.g. polyvinyl acetate, methacrylic and acrylic esters, cellulosic ethers and esters, coumarone indene resins, natural and synthetic rubbers, rosins and insoluble rosin derivatives. The wetting agents are alkyl aryl sulphonates, sulphonated esters of fatty alcohols and quaternary ammonium compounds. Specification 666,563 is referred to.
