1339691 Flexible shafts S YAMADA 3 Jan 1972 193/72 Heading F2U [Also in Division A1] A flexible drive shaft for driving a rotary tool 15 from the output 14 of a motor 12 (Fig. 1, not shown) supported on a frame for carriage on a workman's back has two handles 18, 12 associated with sleeves 17, 19 which surmount an inflexible pipe 16 which is slidable over an intermediate section of the shaft's flexible casing 13 to alter the attitude of the rotary tool. Each handle incorporates a screw threaded clamp by which the associated sleeve is clamped to the pipe 16. The sleeve 17 is rigidly connected to the flexible casing 13 and the pipe 16 is connected to a tool holder by means of a rod 21. Consequently as the tube 16 is axially slid in sleeve 17 by handle 20 clamped thereto, the attitude of the tool 15 is altered. The arrangement also permits the handle 20 to be moved relative to 18 to suit the workman. Specification 1,008,015 is referred to.
