Abstract

1339403 DC-DC converters STTWASEIKOSHA KK 19 Jan 1972 [3 Feb 1971] 2576/72 Heading H2F [Also in Divisions G3 and H3] In a time-piece such as a wrist-watch driven from a vibrator such as a tuning fork 1 and having a liquid crystal display element 10 under the control of a signal 12 from a frequency divider (not shown), means such as a transformer 8, 9 is provided to step up the voltage to that necessary for driving the liquid crystal display 10. In the example shown, a piezoelectric detector 2 has its output amplified by a transistor 6 to provide a pulsed D.C. output to the transformer 8, 9 which supplies current to both a piezo-electric vibrator 3 for the tuning fork 1 and to the liquid crystal display 10. A modified system is referred to in which a quartz crystal vibrator is used in place of the tuning fork whereby the size of the transformer may be reduced.
