Abstract
1338955 Power press CENTRALNE BIURO KONSTRUKCYJNE PRAS I MLOTOW 19 April 1971 [16 March 1970] 25347/71 Heading B5F A power press includes a head 1, a ram 4 and a drive system which comprises slipper pads 8, 9 mounted in the head 1 and the ram 4 and engaging one to four driving discs 5 each having an inclined lower surface. The ram 4 is slidable on the columns 17 connecting the head 1 and a press table 21. In operation each disc 5 is rotated by a toothed gear 7 and cams the ram 4 downwardly. A return mechanism for the rani may comprise a spring arrangement 11 or an hydraulic system such as a bladder type accumulator (10, Fig. 1) or a combination of hydraulic and spring systems. The hydraulic system of the combination, shown in Fig. 4, includes a cylinder 12 associated with each disc and mounted on the press frame, a spring urged piston 13 in each cylinder 12 and a slipper pad 14 engaging the inclined lower surface of a disc 5, and carried by each piston 13. In this latter system the columns 17 act as pistons in further cylinders 16 which are mounted in the ram 4 and hydraulically linked to the cylinders 12. The slipper pads may be self-aligning hydrostatic slipper elements or they may be coated with a low friction material and submerged in an oil bath. In the embodiment shown the height of the press table 21 is adjustable by means of nuts engaging threaded portions of the columns. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 2) the uppermost position of the working surface of the ram is adjustable by sliding wedges (19) located in the ram under the mountings for the slipper pads 9. The length of the press stroke may be varied by forming the discs in two wedge-shaped parts (5a, 5b, Fig. 10) enabling the angle of inclination of the lower surface to be varied by adjustment of the relative angular positions of the parts (5a, 5b).
