Abstract

1338732 Finishing filaments MONSANTO CO 3 Feb 1972 [4 Feb 1971] 5120/72 Heading B5B The tackiness of freshly-spun filaments, at least partly composed of a block copolymeric elastomer, is reduced by dressing them with an aqueous emulsion which contains, by weight (i) between 1 and 15% of an emulsifiable wax which is one or more selected from paraffin waxes, microcrystalline waxes and polyethylene waxes; (ii) between 10 and 45% textile oil lubricant and (iii) sufficient emulsifier to maintain the wax and the oil in emulsion. Sufficient of the emulsion is applied to give a deposit of the non-aqueous ingredients of from 1 to 5% of the weight of the filament. The filament may be a side-by-side conjugate filament, one component being the block copolymeric elastomer and the other a "hard" (as herein defined) polymer. Examples illustrate the use of the invention on filaments of polyurethane on their own and conjugate spun with nylon.
