Abstract

1338632 Transparent polyamide containing laminates DYNAMIT NOBEL AG 28 May 1971 [2 June 1970] 18109/71 Heading B5N A transparent safety or bullet-proof laminate comprises a plurality of layers consisting of one or more amorphous polyamide layers and optionally one or more silicate glass layers bonded together by a plasticizer-containing polyvinyl butyral, the or each amorphous polyamide layer, before being incorporated into the laminate, having had applied to one or both of its surfaces a lacquer containing compounds capable of undergoing an addition or condensation polymerization to form a light stable film, and, after formation of the light stable film on one or both of its surfaces, having been pressed between two flat parallel plates. The films are preferably used as the outermost layers of the laminate to improve scratch resistance. Suitable lacquers are those containing an aliphatic polyisocyanate optionally admixed with an aromatic polyisocyanate and a compound containing hydroxyl groups, e.g. a branched polyester; lacquers containing a polyfunctional acrylate resin having free hydroxyl groups and a melamine-aldehyde resin or polyisocyanate may also be used. In a preferred embodiment, a light stabilizer is present in the lacquer. The lacquer may also be applied to the edges of the laminate to prevent the penetration of moisture into the polyvinyl butyral.
