Abstract
1394271 Laminates SAINT-GOBAIN INDUSTRIES 17 April 1972 [20 April 1971 29 April 1971] 17636/72 Heading B5N A laminate comprises in order a silicate glass sheet, a sheet of plastically deformable plastics material ("extensible sheet") 0À5-1À5 mm. thick and a self-healing protective layer composed of a soft plastics composition capable of spontaneous return by plastic flow after deformation. The extensible sheet may comprise polyvinyl butyral or polyurethane. The protective layer may be a partially cross-linked aliphatic polyurethane and may include a reinforcing sheet of thickness 0À1-0À2 mm. formed, e.g. of amorphous polyamide or copolyamide, cellulose acetobutyrate or triacetate, polycarbonate, polyester or ionomer and disposed between the extensible sheet and the protective material. Adhesives, e.g. linear polyester polyurethane, isocyanates, titanium or silicon esters, transition metal salts, silyl peroxide or epoxy resins, may be used between the extensible sheet and a reinforcing sheet. A sealing layer, to prevent the diffusion of water vapour, may be provided between the protective layer and the extensible sheet (in contact with either of them) and may be formed of plasticized polyvinyl chloride, polyvinylidene chloride or vinylidene chloride-vinyl chloride copolymer, polyisobutylene or polypropylene. Such a layer may be deposited from solution to form a film or may be in sheet form, the sheet being constituted either by the sealant alone or by another material having a lining of the sealant materials. The sealing layer may replace the reinforcing layer. The assembled layers may be bonded by subjecting to heat and pressure after evacuation to remove trapped air.
