Abstract

1338573 Timber slotting machine DAVID GRAY (CONTRACTORS) Ltd 21 May 1971 [20 Aug 1970] 40083/70 Heading B5L A machine for cutting slots in a timber beam 14 comprises a pair of opposed cutters 11 arranged in spaced disposition and each adapted to remove timber from a respective side of the beam at 22, and a slot cutter 12 which cuts a transverse slot 21 in the beam, the cutters 11 and 12 being mounted for movement transversely of the workpiece. As described, each cutter 11 is frusto-conical and is driven by an electric motor 15 movable toward or away from a work-station 13 by a pneumatic ram 16. The rams 16 may operate together or separately. The cutter 12 comprises a pack of cutter saws some of the discs of which have widened teeth to ensure removal of all the timber from the slot being cut. The cutter 12 is driven by an electric motor 18 and the cutter and motor are mounted on a frame 17 for movement toward or away from the workpiece by operation of a pneumatic ram 20.
