Abstract

1337779 Colour television tubes PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 22 Sept 1971 [25 Sept 1970] 44218/71 Heading H1D A light-absorbing substance is applied in the spaces between phosphor areas 2 on a window 1 of a colour cathode ray tube by first forming in the said spaces a conductive layer 3 by rinsing with a solution containing not more than 10% by weight of a conductive material, then forming a dielectric layer 4 on top of the first layer by rinsing with a solution of not more than 10% by weight insulating material, drying the layers and forming thereon an electric charge by means of a corona discharge and then applying a lightabsorbing substance by electrostatic deposition from a suspension in an apolar solvent. The conductive solution can be 0À5 to 3% potassium silicate in water or polyvinyl alcohol and glycerine in water. The dielectric solution can be 1 to 5% polyvinyl carbazol in 5 parts chlorobenzene and 1 part dichloromethane.
