Abstract
1337707 Magnetic reed contacts OREGACIFTE COMPAGNIE EUROPEENNE D'ELECTRONIQUE ET DE MECANIQUE 25 Feb 1972 [26 Feb 1971 21 Dec 1971] 8918/72 Heading B3A [Also in Division H1] A method of making a device comprising a body 10 and an elongate metal member 3, Fig. 2, comprises attaching the metal member to the body, stamping the member to produce a portion of reduced thickness, and then bending the portion. Specifically, the device comprises an enclosure of insulating material, e.g. glass, and a lead-through wire of magnetic material, e.g. ferro-nickel alloy. A device comprising two lead-throughs, as with a magnetic reed contact breaker, is stamped in two stages using two pairs of jaws. The device is arranged in an automatically-loading symmetrical clamp with jaws P 3 , P 4 either side of the lead-throughs 3, (4), Figs. 3, 4 (not shown) of thickness d to produce thinned portions of thickness e 2 to e 1 . The jaws are reinforced by attached elements made of, e.g. tungsten carbide. Apparatus embodying such a device comprises a coil 12, Fig. 5, within which the device is mounted. The bent lead-through wires pass through a base-plate 15 connected to a metal cover 20, the space inside the cover being filled with a resin. The wires 3, (4) may also be bent sideways, Fig. 6 (not shown), as well as downwardly, and are spotwelded to connecting pins (13a). The device may be used for semi-conductor elements having metallic leads where bodies are made of fragile insulating material, e.g. ceramic and enamel, and to which a wire is attached either by inclusion of the material or by welding where it is necessary to bend the wire in the immediate vicinity of the bond thus produced.
