1337383 Gas turbine plant A P PEDRICK 27 Oct 1972 49642/72 Heading FIG [Also in Division F4] A disused coal mine is used for generating electricity either by storing compressed air in the mine from electrically-driven compressors operated during off-peak periods, the compressed air being used to drive turbines driving electricity generators during peak periods, Figs 1 and 2 (not shown) or by using the mine as the combustion chamber of a gas turbine plant, air from the turbine plant compressor being pumped into the mine through one shaft and being heated by burning coal deposits in the mine, the heated air being discharged through another shaft and driving a turbine connected to the compressor and to an electricity generator Fig. 3 (not shown).
