Abstract

1337249 Finishing fabrics WISSENSCHAFTLICH-TECHNISCHES ZENTRUM TECHNISCHE TEXTILIEN 13 Nov 1970 [9 Sept 1969] 44541/69 Headings D1E and D1S [Also in Division B5] A flat woven open-width fabric of synthetic plastics material is produced by weaving a tubular fabric on a circular loom, severing the tubular fabric longitudinally and consolidating the severed edges to prevent fraying as the fabric is drawn off of the loom before being wound onto a take-up beam. In one embodiment, Fig. 1, a flattened tubular fabric 1 is drawn off a circular loom and is opened by a spreader 2. A heated blade 3 severs the fabric longitudinally and simultaneously seals the cut fabric edges to form selvages 4, 4'. In a second embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), the tubular fabric is severed by a disc cutter (3') and the selvages are oversewn by two sewing machines (5), (5'). In another embodiment, Fig. 3, the fabric 1 is severed by a disc cutter 3' and the cut edges 4, 4' have thermoplastic strips 7, 7' sealed thereto by rollers 8, 8' after being heated by wedges 6, 6'. In a further embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown) the fabric 1 is severed by a disc cutter (3') and the edges (4), (4') are sealed by solvent (10), (10') applied thereto by rollers (9), (9').
