Abstract

1336791 Mineral mining machines; dust suppression COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd 31 Dec 1971 [1 Jan 1971] 80/71 Heading E1F In a mineral mining machine dust suppression means comprises a tube 18 held stationary relative to the rotary pick carrier 10 by releasable means 28, 34, a distributor 36 within and rotating with the carrier for feeding suppression fluid to an angular portion of the carrier, and a phasing element 58 rotating with the tube and cooperating with the distributor so that when the carrier is rotating fluid is fed to a selected portion of the carrier. The shearer drum machine comprises a body 2 carrying a rotary shaft 4, and the pick carrier 10 fixed to the shaft. Water is supplied to the tube through a passage 14 in a flange 12 which carries the spring loaded detent 28 which engages the ratchet wheel 24 fixed to the tube. The phasing disc 58 is fixed to the tube and has an arcuate slot 72, the disc cooperating with the distributor to deliver water to a group of bores 70 selected in accordance with the angular setting of the tube. In a modification the suppression means is fitted to a ranging shearer drum machine having an adjustable arm carrying the drum at its free end.
