Abstract

1336739 Cleaning processes XEROX CORP 21 Dec 1970 [30 Dec 1969] 60538/70 Heading G2H Residual liquid remaining on a surface 10 after transfer of a liquid image therefrom is removed by applying a film forming cleaning material which has a melting point above room temp. and which wets the surface and forms a film (the material being applied as a liquid or as a solid which is subsequently liquified) and removing the film together with the residual liquid. As shown, the surface 10 is charged at 11, exposed at 12, liquid developed at 13 and the liquid image is transferred to a receiver 16. A sponge roller 23 applies the material and melts it by friction and a web 18 removes the resulting film and the residual liquid developer. Cleaning materials are listed, waxes being preferred. They are applied by brushing, cascading, spraying, or by webs, rollers, sheets or wadding, or by moving the surface 10 past a solid stick of the material, and are removed by webs, blades, rollers or brushes.
