Abstract

1439229 Cleaning electrographic surfaces XEROX CORP 3 Aug 1973 [ 9 Aug 1972] 37003/73 Heading G2H Electro-photographic or electrographic drum 34 is cleaned of remaining toner or developer, after transfer of a developed image, by rotating cellular-surfaced roller 30, which is itself provided with a cleaning means 44. Preferably the roller is of a foam material, and the cleaning means is a scraper. Electrostatic charge accumulating on the roller is neutralized by corona apparatus 48. Two rollers may be used in sequence, and a light source may be used to flood an electrophotographic drum surface and assist in toner removal. The roller 30 may be driven independently of the drum, so that it wipes the drum surface and does not merely roll on it. Removed toner may be circulated for re-use.
