Abstract
1336524 Yarn handling suction tube ZINSER-TEXTILMASCHINEN GmbH 2 May 1972 [3 May 1971] 20411/72 Heading D1F A yarn handling apparatus adapted to initially pick up a running length of yarn and then pull the same at increased speed and tension e.g. to a yarn waste collection unit, comprises an air inlet tube 30 defining an air entry end and a closed inner end 36, an air outlet tube 46 fixedly mounted coaxially within the tube 30 and having an open end 52 positioned adjacent the inlet tube inner end 36, an open ended nozzle tube 60 extending through the inner end 36 in coaxial alignment with the outlet tube 46 and cooperating therewith to define an annular orifice therebetween, means slidably mounting the nozzle tube 60 in the inlet tube inner end 36 for axial translation between a first position (Figure 3) closely adjacent the open end 52 of tube 46 and a second position (Figure 4) further removed from the open end 52, means e.g spring 91, for resiliently biassing the nozzle tube 60 from the first to the second position, and manually operable control means for releasably retaining the nozzle tube 60 at the first position and upon release thereof, the nozzle tube 60 is automatically translated to the second position by the biassing means. The closed inner end 36 of the inlet tube 30 is provided with a bore 42 to receive the nozzle tube, 60. A housing 72 surrounds the inner end 36 and is slidable thereon within the limits obtained by a screw 78 secured to the end 36 and a slot 76 provided in the housing. The nozzle tube 60 is threadedly received in the housing 72. The manually operated control means comprises a pivoted latch 94 attached to the inlet tube 30. The latch 94 has an arm 95 which engages a shoulder 82 on the housing 72 in the first position of the nozzle tube 60, and engages a second shoulder 90 on the housing 72 in the second position of the nozzle tube 60. The latch 94 is spring urged towards the position engaging the first shoulder 82. The latch is released by means of a cable 98 operated by a trigger slidable on the inlet tube 30. The outlet tube 46 comprises inner and outer liners 112, 110; the inner liner 112 either being smoothly tapered to provide an increasing diameter in the tube 46 from the open end 52, or being provided with a stepped diameter increasing from the open end 52 towards the collection unit. In operation, the nozzle tube 60 is adjusted relative to the open end 52 of tube 46 by rotation relative to the housing 72 to provide suction at the eyelet 70 of the tube 60 of, for example, 23 inches of mercury. The latch is released and the tube 60 moved to the second position and this position is adjusted by moving the ring 84, possessing the shoulder 90, relative to the housing 72. The second position is preferably set to provide suction at the eyelet 70 of 8 inches of mercury. The tube 60 is then set at the first position and air is supplied through tube 30, which air supply is deflected by closed end 36 to pass through the annulus between the tubes 46 and 60 and thereby cause suction at the eyelet 70. The eyelet 70 is manually positioned to pick up a running length of yarn which then passes down tubes 60 and 46. The latch 94 is released and the spring 91 moves the housing 72 and nozzle tube 60 attached thereto to the second position in which the suction at the eyelet 70 is reduced by virtue of the reduced velocity of air through the annulus between the tubes 60 and 46. The air passing through the tube 46 tensions the yarn which may be threaded through the processing machine by the eyelet 70, the threaded yarn then being severed and the waste yarn in the tube 46 is conveyed to the collection unit.
