5 Claims, 1 Drawing Figure APPARATUS FOR WITHDRAWING RAPIDLY MOVING YARN MATERIAL BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a new and improved construction of apparatus for sucking off or withdrawing rapidlymoving yarnmaterial. The termyarn material" as used in the context of this application is not em- ,ployed in any limiting sense, rather is intended to encompass most types of filamentary material, such as threads, yarns,.and the like.
The prior art is familiar with equipment for sucking off rapidly moving yarn material which functions according to the principles of an injector. To this end there is provided a suction conduit guiding the yarn, thesuction conduit opening into awidened cylindrical compartment and issurrounded by a ring-shaped discharge or jet nozzle which flow communicates with a compressed air source. Compressed air is delivered by means of a radially extending channel into the annular compartment opening at the jet nozzle.
Equipmentof this type enables the sucking off or withdrawal of yarns travelling at speeds exceeding 3,500 m/min. Yet, such type stateof-the-art equipment only produces a relatively slight tensional force. Hence,
it can be onlysuccessfully employed in those situations where the yarn is sucked off without practically any deflection and wherethere is no danger that the yarn will become caught at rotating components owing to the absence of a sufficient pulling or tensile load.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION Hence, from what has been explained above, it
should be recognized that this particular field of technology is still in need of equipment for withdrawing or sucking off rapidly moving yarn material in a manner not associated with the aforementioned drawbacks and limitations of the heretofore discussed proposals of the prior art. It is therefore a primary object of the present invention to provide apparatus suitable for this purpose which successfully and reliably fulfills the existing need .in the art. I
Still a further significant object of the present invention relates to an improved apparatus for sucking off rapidly, moving yarn material which is capable of exerting a sufficient tension force at the yarn material.
Yet another important object of the present invention relates to an improved construction of apparatus .only. after experiencing a commingling action. Conse quently, the solution proposed by the invention is predicated upon the features of generating a spin or twist flow in the cylindrical compartment by means of compressed air and permitting the yarn material, centrally introduced through the suction conduit, from being carried out of the core zone by the spin flow and directlysubjected. to the actionof such spin flow.
Now, in orderto implement the aforementioned objects and others which will become more readily apparent as the description proceeds, and for the purpose of realizing a construction of apparatus suitable for the intended purposes, the inventive apparatus embodies a suction bore, an approximately cylindrical compartment into which approximately coaxially opens the suction bore and which compartment possesses a larger diameter than the suction bore. Further, there is pro vided a compressed air channel which opens into this cylindrical compartment, the compressed air channel entering approximately tangentially into the cylindrical compartment.
According to a further aspect of the invention, the position of the mouth of the compressed air channel at the cylindrical compartment with respect to the plane containing the mouth of the suction bore is offset downstream with respect to the direction of flow, i.e., also with regard to the direction of movement of the yarn material.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING The invention will be better understood and objects other than those set forth above, will become apparent when consideration is given to the following detailed description thereof. Such description makes reference to the annexed drawing wherein the single FIGURE illustrates in longitudinal sectional view an exemplary: embodimentof inventive apparatusfor withdrawing or sucking-off rapidly movingyam material.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS l Describing now the single FIGURE of the drawing, it is to be understood that the exemplary illustrated apparatus constitutes a piece of equipment intended to be installed at the winding locations or stations of a texturizing machine in which there can be randomly processed right-hand or left-hand twistedyarn. To this end reference numeral 2 designates a housing body which can be secured in any convenient manner, therefore not particularly shown, to the winding location ors tation. A longitudinal or lengthwise extending bore 4 completely extends through the housing body 2. Bores 6, 8 and 10 provided at the housing body 2 open into the longitudinal bore 4 in a direction substantially perpendicular thereto. The bores 6 and 8 are connected via conduits l4 and 16 with a suitable suction installation 12. constituting part of the texturizing machine. The bore 10 arranged between the bores 6 and 8 is con- While the one end of the longitudinal bore 4 is closed orcovered by a suitable cover member 22, aninsert24 extends into the longitudinal bore 4 from the opposite end of the housing body 2. This insert 24 embodies a sleeve member 26 which incorporates a tapered central portion 28 and a tapered end portion 30. The tapered central portion 28 together with the inner wall of the longitudinal bore 4 delimits a compartment 32 which flow communicates with the bore 10 and issealed by means of sealing O-rings 34 inserted at both ends of the central portion 28 into the sleeve member 26, as shown. The sleeve member 26 is retained in the axial direction within the housing body 2 by means of an ad- I justing screw 36 which engages with a peripheral groove 38 provided at such sleeve member 26.
At the tapered end portion 30 of the sleeve member 26 there is provided an elongate hole 40 through which nected via a conduit .18 with a compressed air source extends an entrainment screw 42. The entrainment screw 42 is inserted into a gripping or operating element 44 which is displaceably guided at the tapered end portion 30. By means of the entrainment screw 42 the gripping element 44 is connected with a suction conduit or pipe 48 which is seated in a bore 46 of the sleeve member 26 and for the purpose of accommodating the end of the entrainment screw 42 is provided with a circumferential groove 54. The suction conduit 48 contains an axially extending suction bore 50 with a substantially trumpet-shaped inlet 52. The discharge mouth or outlet 58 of the suction bore 50 is located at a stepped end portion or mouthpiece 56 of the suction conduit 48. A compressed air channel 60 opens into the sleeve bore 46, this compressed air channel 60 being offset downstream in the direction of flow by a small amount with regard to the outlet or mouth 58. Moreover, the axis of the compressed air channel 60 extends approximately tangentially with regard to the wall of the sleeve bore 46.
Now, within the sleeve bore 46 the suction conduit 48 can be displaced out of its full line illustrated termi nal position together with the gripping or operating element 44 into the phantom line illustrated terminal position. The extension of the elongate hole 40, limiting the displacement path, is selected such that two O-rings 62 inserted into the suction conduit 48 come to rest at both sides of the compressed air channel 60, whereas the mouth thereof is covered by the suction conduit 48 when such is located in the phantom line illustrated terminal position.
The cylindrical compartment 64 formed by the sleeve bore 46 and the discharge end or mouth 58 of the suction conduit 48 is in flow communication, through the agency of a trumpet-shaped outlet 66, with a compartment 68 bounded by the longitudinal bore 4 and the cover member 22, and into which compartment 68 the bore 8 opens.
Now if yarn, indicated by reference character F, is brought into the neighborhood of the suction conduit inlet 52, during which time the gripping or operating element and therefore also the suction conduit 48 are located in the full line illustrated terminal position, then this yarn is sucked up by a suction air current. This air flow forms in the suction bore 50 under the action of the compressed air which flows from the tangential compressed air channel 60 into the compartment 64. If the yarn F thus arrives at the compartment 64, then it is exposed to such a strong tensional force that the travelling yarn is withdrawn in a tensioned condition.
Owing to the flow prevailing in the compartments 64 and 68, the yarn F is delivered to the bore 8 and thereafter is taken over by the conduit 16 of the suction installation 12 of the equipment. Through appropriate means, well known in this particular art, there is insured that a sufficiently high transport air velocity prevails in the conduit i6 in order to avoid clogging or damming up of yarn. If the bobbin-change operation is carried out, which for instance constituted a reason for resorting to the use of the apparatus, then the yarn travelling into the apparatus is deposited in the form of a loop upon the rotating new bobbin sleeve and the yarn connection to the apparatus and namely to the suction conduit 48 is severed by any suitable and therefore not particularly illustrated cutting device. If the appropriate yarn end has been completely grasped by the apparatus, then, by displacing the operating or gripping element 44 into the phantom line position, the infeed of compressed air from the compartment 32 can be interrupted and therefore the apparatus can be placed out of operation.
Although the apparatus as shown in the illustrated assembled position of the insert 24, is designed for operation with left-hand twisted yarns, such can be converted most simply for processing right-hand twisted yarns. To this end, the screw 36 is released to such an extent that the sleeve member 30 is freed, and the insert 24 is withdrawn out of the longitudinal bore 4. Thereafter the cover member 22 is inserted from the leftside into the longitudinal bore 4. In its place there is inserted at the right-hand side of the housing, the insert member 24 into the longitudinal bore 4 and by means of the previously loosened screw 37 such is secured in a mirror-image reversed position. In this position the bore 10 is again in flow communication with the compartment 32, whereas the compartment 64 communicates via a compartment corresponding to the compartment 68 with the bore 6 instead of with the bore 8. However, even in this position of assembly of the insert member 24 the connection to the suction installation 12 is realized through the agency of the conduit 14.
Measurements undertaken at different apparatus constructions designed according to the teachings of this invention have shown that the inventive principles have produced surprisingly high tensional forces at the running or travelling yarns, something which is desired for the disturbance-free withdrawal of yarns from the work zone of the texturizing equipment.
Measurements carried out for instance with the illustrated apparatus and with a textured yarn 30/10 denier have resulted in a tension of 5 grams with a delivery speed of 120 m/min. The apparatus was furnished with compressed air from the compressed air source at 5 atmospheres absolute pressure and there prevailed an air consumption of 250 N liters/min.
The more important dimensions of the apparatus are given by way of example hereinafter:
l. Suction conduit 48 Diameter (4)) of the suction bore 50 3 mm Length of the suction bore 50 50 mm Length of the end portion 56 2 mm 2. Compartment 64 2 Inner diameter 7 mm Length mm Spacing of the axis of the channel 60 from the plane of the mouth 58 2 mm Bore diameter of the channel 60 2 mm 3. Compartment 68 2 Inner diameter 14 mm Spacing of the axis of the bore 8 from the end of the compartment 64 24 mm Diameter of the bore 8 10 mm Comparative tests have shown'that the inventive apparatus, in most instances, produces a considerably larger tensional force than an injection mechanism operated under the same conditions and where the compressed air channel opens into an axially directed discharge nozzle.
The higher tensional forces which prevail for the inventive apparatus are present owing to the fact that a pronounced spin or twist flow exists in the compartment 64 which subjects the yarn in the core zone thereof and coming out of the suction bore to a revolvembodiments of the invention, it is to be distinctly understood that the invention is not limited thereto, but may be otherwise variously embodied and practiced within the scope of the following claims.
