Abstract
1336343 Expectorate container NUNC A S 12 Oct 1971 [14 Oct 1970] 47499/71 Heading A4N An expectorate container comprises a generally flat bottom part 1 provided with a side wall, a lid 3 including a downwardly extending collar 4 having a helical groove 5 on the inside thereof which co-operates with a helical projection 2 at the upper edge of the vertically extending sides of the bottom part so that the lid may be screwed on and off and an insert 6 mounted in or on the underside of the lid preferably by means of an annular pin 7 extending from the underneath of the lid and fitting into a hole 8 on the top surface of the insert which thus renders the lid rotatable relative to the insert. The projecting pin may extend from the top side of the insert and be inserted in a corresponding hole in the underside of the lid in an alternative embodiment. The insert itself comprises a flange 9 forming a seal between the upper edge of the sides of the bottom part and said lid when the container is closed, and an inclined surface 11 abutting an annular shoulder 12 of the bottom part of the container which provides a seal between the insert and bottom part. Any expectorate sample, which during transportation has been transferred to the underside of the insert, can be removed from the insert by scraping the lid and insert across the upper edge of the vertically extending sides of the bottom part, the removal thus effected without interference from the downwardly extending collar of said lid. The lid and bottom part of the container are preferably made of plastics material e. g. low density polyethylene, or polystyrene, and the insert, which is preferably resilient, being made from high density polyethylene.
