Abstract

1336118 Medical infusion apparatus S H ANDERSEN [trading as TRANSCODAN SVEN HUSTED-ANDERSEN] 21 April 1972 [23 April 1971] 18747/72 Heading A5R Apparatus for infusion or transfusion comprises a pump 3, a cannula holder 7, and a resilient hose 5 which forms an expansible reservoir and which is located between the pump and the holder. Non-return valves 2, 4 are provided on either side of the pump which is connected to a transfer apparatus 1. Hoseclips 9, 10, also provided either side of the pump, regulate the liquid flow to a patient. Upon actuation of the pump 3 pressure is generated in the expansible hose 5 causing it to expand in the radial direction and the liquid inside the hose to become pressurized. The liquid then flows through hose 8 to the cannula holder 7 and a cannula (not shown). The hose 5 is so dimensioned that upon the, suction stroke of the pump liquid is continuously delivered, owing to the positive pressure remaining within the hose, in a practically uniform flow. Alternatively, closing of hose-clip 10 can be made after a high fluid pressure is produced within the reservoir without improving the continuous flow of liquid to the cannula even though the pump is not operational. The hose 5 may be made of rubber or a rubber-like material, and the holder of plastics, e.g. polyvinylchloride.
