Abstract

1295934 Blood transfusion bag JINTAN TERUMO CO Ltd 28 May 1970 [28 May 1969] 25780/70 Heading A5R Apparatus for the transfusion of blood comprises a fluid transfusing bag 1 made of flexible plastics material having a fluid outlet connection 7, which has a sealing membrane 8 and the outer end of the connection having inserted into it the needle portion 11e of a cannula 11 which is attached to the fluid outlet connection by a thin walled tube 9. A heat shrinkable rubber tube 10 bridges the thin wall tube and a conduit 12 mounted on the cannula 11 so that when the bag is steam sterilized, steam passes under the tube 10 into the tube 9 and through the bore 11c through the conduit 12 into a separate bag 13. The tube 10 then shrinks causing the conduit 12 to be sealed off from the atmosphere. After blood is transfused into bag 1 via needle 5, transfusion tube 4 and ball valve 3 then bag 1 is centrifuged to separate blood plasma from blood corpuscules, and after penetration of the needle 11e through the seal 8 the blood plasma is drawn off through bore 11c into the separate bag 13, from which it is administered to the patient. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 4, (not shown), a medical fluid bag (21) may be connected to a cylindrical filter (22) by means of the thin walled tube, cylindrical connection member and heat shrinkable tube as described above. The filter (22) is connected to a cannula (24) by way of a tube 23.
