Abstract

1336007 Sheet extrusion die KALLE AG 17 Nov 1970 [19 Nov 1969] 54655/70 Heading B5A Variations in the thickness of a thermoplastics film or sheet extruded from the outlet slot 5 of a cross-feed die 6, are distributed across the width of the sheet by distributing the feed of molten material to the die slot inlet cyclically across the width thereof from the interior of a sleeve. In the Fig. 1 embodiment, the slot inlet opens from a cylindrical die recess containing the sleeve 3 having an outlet opening slot 4 extending obliquely therearound from which the discharge of molten material, fed into one end, or simultaneously into both ends 2, of the sleeve 3, is cyclically distributed as the slot 4 moves into and out of register with die inlet during a continuous or oscillating rotation of the sleeve 3, upon which may be imparted an axial motion. Part of the molten material may also issue from the opposite end of the sleeve 3 to which it enters. In the Fig. 5 embodiment (not printed), the molten material issues from a bevelled end (7) at the opposite end to which it enters the sleeve, which is axially reciprocated and may additionally be given a continuous or oscillating rotation. The outlet opening 4 of the sleeve may alternatively comprise adjacent perforations or a combination of perforations and slots.
